Common Boiler Problems We Solve
Boilers are incredibly reliable, but, like any home appliance, they can malfunction or fail. Depending on the type of system you have in your Milwaukee, WI, home, you might encounter any number of issues.
Standard Cast-Iron Boilers
These traditional units are known for their durability, but age eventually catches up with them. Common red flags include:
- Kettling: If your boiler emits bubbling or rumbling sounds, lime or sediment likely has built up on the heat exchanger.
- Pump Problems: If the boiler is hot but your radiators are cold, the pump that moves the water is likely faulty.
- Pilot Light: Older gas boilers often suffer from standing pilot lights that won't stay lit.
High-Efficiency Condensing Boilers
The complex sensors and electronics in modern units require specialized repair knowledge for these issues:
- Blocked Condensate Drains: These boilers produce acidic water as they run. If the drain line clogs or freezes, the system will shut down for safety.
- Sensor Failures: Flame sensors or outdoor reset sensors can drift out of calibration, leading to inefficient heating.
- Ignition Problems: High-efficiency units use sophisticated ignition sequences that dirty burners or gas pressure fluctuations can disrupt.

I could not be happier with my experience with Midwest Heating & Cooling. From my initial call this morning regarding my air conditioning issue, the team was responsive, professional, and easy to work with. They quickly scheduled a service appointment, sent a text notification when I was next in line, and Brady called with an accurate estimated time of arrival. He arrived right on time and immediately made a great impression. Brady was truly outstanding. I had an AC replacement with Midwest. The service from the first visit for estimation all the way to completion was incredibly professional. They were respectful and cleaned up after themselves. I had a few issues with my new unit, they went above and beyond in terms of communication and making sure they could correct the issue as soon as possible. While every Midwest tech I’ve met so far has been great, but shout out to Garrett for checking in multiple times and taking time to help troubleshoot.
